About Us

Thank you for your interest in Van De Sterke Kennel, operated by Tim Connell and Samantha LaRochelle.

The formation of Van De Sterke Kennel is the culmination of nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience, blended with a passion for the Working Dog. We have been working with and training Working Dogs for the last 35+ years. We are currently members of United Schutzhund Clubs of America,  North American Ringsport Association and North American Police Work Dog Association. Tim also serves as the State Coordinator for the North American Police Work Dog Association.

Our doctrine is simple: A proper Working Dog, regardless of venue is a combination of superior genetics, environmental exposure and conditioning, imprinting of behaviors, and training. A Working Dog needs to be prepared with the greatest level of care and preparation possible for its mission, whether for service work, the trial field, or as a protection dog. We will never sell a dog or puppy as a working candidate that we would not rely on ourselves.
A Working Dog can be a valuable asset for law enforcement, a competitive protection sport dog, or an additional layer of security for personal protection.
Our Working Dogs are for the performance of various functions:
  1. Police and law enforcement:  Tracking and searches, apprehension, and the detection of narcotics, explosives, firearms, or other contraband.
  2. Sport: For various protection related sports such as French Ring, Mondioring, and Schutzhund/IPO.
  3. Search and Rescue: Wilderness or Urban search and rescue, or Human Remains Detection  (cadaver).
  4. Personal protection dogs: For protection of self and family, and safeguarding of property.
Regardless of mission or function, all of our dogs and puppies are prepared for the greatest possible opportunity for success in the venue it is intended for. Whether you are looking for a puppy, or a green dog, please contact us with your needs. If we do not have what you are looking for, we can locate a candidate for you through various contacts throughout the United States and Europe depending on your needs. Working Line German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and Dutch Shepherds are available. Other breeds suitable for use as single purpose Detection dogs are occasionally available.
